CHARLOTTE, NC, (December 15, 2011) – Cassidy Turley, a leading commercial real estate services provider in the U.S., announced today it has been awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for its Charlotte office interior. Located on the 34th floor of the Duke Energy Tower, Cassidy Turley’s 11,500 square foot office houses 35 associates.
"LEED Certification is important to our company because we have a strong commitment to do what is in the best interest of our clients, our employees, our communities and our environment,” said Andrew Laing, Vice President at Cassidy Turley and a Board member of the USGBC Charlotte Regional Chapter. “By embracing sustainability in our space, we encourage our clients and tenants to also support this approach.”
The Charlotte office is the most recent addition to a growing list of Cassidy Turley corporate offices to achieve LEED certification, which includes St. Louis, Washington D.C., San Francisco and San Jose.
“Cassidy Turley’s LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. “The urgency of USGBC’s mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and Cassidy Turley serves as a prime example with just how much we can accomplish.”
Cassidy Turley Sustainability Services oversaw the project which incorporated a variety of sustainable strategies into the office that positively impact the project itself and the broader community. These features include:
- Over 20% of materials are manufactured regionally (500 mile radius of Charlotte).
- Furnishings and other products not only contain high recycled content but are also recyclable.
- Potable water use is over 35% reduction, when compared to the LEED baseline.
- 97% of electronic equipment and appliances installed are ENERGY STAR® rated.
- Energy use is minimized through motion sensors, indirect/direct lighting, and LED exit signs.
