Cassidy Turley 13th Annual Race for Hope DC Raises $2.3 Million

America Idol® David Cook Returns to Support Brain Tumor Research

Published on May 04, 2010

Washington, DC – Cassidy Turley announced today that the Cassidy Turley 13th Annual 5K Run/Walk Race for Hope DC held on Sunday, May 2, 2010 to benefit National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2) raised $2.3 million. More than 11,000 runners, walkers and survivors participated in this year’s event, which is the country’s largest fundraiser for the brain tumor community.

James Cassidy, Senior Vice President of Cassidy Turley; Steve Case, Chairman of the ABC2 Board of Directors; Allison Jones Thomson, Board Chair of NBTS; and Stacey Case, Cofounder of ABC2 presented a check to NBTS and ABC2 for the 2010 Race proceeds at Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC at an awards ceremony immediately following the Race.  Mr. Cassidy commented, “Ten years ago after my father was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, Cassidy Turley became involved with this event as the title sponsor.  The first year the company participated we raised $175,000.  This year, after all the dollars are counted, we will have raised $2.3 million.”  Mr. Cassidy added, “It is gratifying to know brain tumor patients are receiving cutting-edge treatment options made possible by research grants supported by the Race for Hope DC.”  Before succumbing to his disease in 2001, Pat Cassidy, cofounder of Cassidy & Pinkard, one of the Cassidy Turley predecessor firms, took great satisfaction in knowing that his company was taking a leadership role in helping to raise funds for brain tumor research.

David Cook, American Idol® winner, participated in the Race for the second year.  During the closing ceremony, Mr. Cook reinforced his message from last year that he plans to continue participating in the Race.  He ran in the Race last year just one day after his brother Adam died of a brain tumor.  Mr. Cook commented, “This race means more to me than I can possibly put into words.”

Founded in 1997 by local volunteers, the Race’s goal is to fund innovative brain tumor research and support for families already affected by this devastating disease.
